Learn about 4 types of bindings!
Although the era of digitalization has taken over, the binding of documents, books, and other materials is still widely used. For example, it is impossible to imagine a book without its cover, hence the saying – “Don't judge a book by its cover” and yet, it is in human nature to do so, thus the cover gives the book an aesthetic and visually appealing look, providing information about the author and title of the book.
4 most popular binding methods:
- Hardcover, where a cardboard cover is made and later laminated with a printed cover sheet. Usually, the sheet is covered with a professional film-like material that protects it from moisture and dirt. Hardcover options are available in a wide range of variations, with personalized design, material, etc. Due to high costs, this binding method is used quite rarely, yet it is a prestigious way to present materials - books, theses, etc.
- Softcover, which is mainly used for binding informative content. The softcover is slightly thicker than the content pages and its main advantages are greater design opportunities. This binding method is used to quickly obtain visually representative materials at low costs. In this method, thermal glue is used, which, by covering the book's cut, binds together the sheets and a strip is inserted in the cover.
- Binding in a metal or plastic spiral, which is considered the cheapest among the previously reviewed, yet has many positive aspects, such as the ability to repeatedly insert materials, easy use (can be flipped 360 degrees), and other advantages. This binding method is used for various distribution materials, everyday work, training materials, etc. Although this binding method's main association is its convenience and low cost, it can be enhanced with plastic covers and various other options.
- Stapled or pamphlet-style binding, which is intended for brochures with a small number of pages. They are stapled with 2 – 3 staples, and this method is used, for example, for work notebooks, educational and visual materials, etc. This binding type is also positioned as cheap and fast.
